About Us

Founded in 2004, we’ve built our business on trust and excellent customer service

Akers Garage was founded in 2004 by Scott Beresford in small lock up at the far end of Akers Avenue in Locharbriggs.

Scott, who started his career as a VW apprentice in 1998, quickly built a successful business on trust and excellent levels of customer service.

As recommendations grew, so did his workload and, as a result, the business has grown to a team of highly qualified mechanics now based in much larger premises on the Downsway Industrial Estate.

Scott’s business ethos remains the same. To provide the motorists of the Dumfries area with an honest and transparent service.

“We’re not driven by targets or figures like many of the larger dealerships, so we’ll only fix what needs to be fixed,” he says.

His loyal customers not only continue to recommend him, but they trust their car for servicing and repairs to Scott and his team year after year.

Akers Garage is an independent Volkswagen Audi Group specialist that is authorised to provide and fit OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts for Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda cars. Akers Garage also service and repair other makes of car too including Seat, Fiat and Land Rover.

All our services are performed by highly qualified mechanics with a combined experience of 208 years using the latest diagnostic equipment. Akers Garage is also an Approved MOT Test Centre and offers quality used cars for sale.

Whether you have been with us since the beginning or have just found us, you can be certain that we will always deliver an honest and transparent service. See what our customers say about us here.

MEET OUR TEAM

SCOTT BERESFORD

Owner

I started at Dumfries Motor Company as a VW apprentice in 1998 and my love for the brand grew quickly from there. In 2004, I started Akers Garage, originally based at the end of Akers Avenue in Locharbriggs. We moved to our current premises at Unit 6 Downsway Industrial Estate in 2017 and we haven’t looked back since. When I am not at work, I enjoy time with my family and classic cars.

SENGA BERESFORD

Accounts

I started hairdressing in 1985 and started my own business in 1999 until 2013. I have been working at Akers Garage since 2015. I have 4 children and have been married to Scott for 10 years. I enjoy meeting friends and enjoying a few cocktails.

MOIRA ROBERTSON

Reception

I am often the first point of contact for people calling in to see us or just calling Akers Garage by phone. I love helping customers with their enquiries about the services we offer, manning the reception desk and booking in customers' cars for repairs or servicing. Customer care is central to the Akers Garage philosophy and helping to deliver that is very rewarding.

GEORGE BURNLEY

Service Manager

I started in 1979 as an apprentice at Southern Garage for 11 years. I then worked at Border Cars for 30 years before joining Scott and the rest of the team at Akers Garage in 2018. When I am not working, I enjoy squash, hillwalking and restoring my Triumph Spitfire.

PAUL LANG

Mechanic/MOT Tester

I started in the motor trade in 1985 at Solway Cars Volvo. I then spent 20 years at a VW dealership before moving to Akers Garage in 2020. Like Scott, I am passionate about VWs and also motorcycles which I ride in my spare time.

JON TURNER

Mechanic

I served my time at Rover and worked at Saab too. I used to run a mobile diagnostics company in Manchester before moving to Scotland in 2008. I worked for Vauxhall then Isuzu where I won 2016 – UK & Europe No1 Technician for Isuzu Competition. My hobbies include restoring classic cars and spending time with my family.

ADAM BURTRAM

Apprentice Mechanic

I started my apprenticeship training to become a mechanic in December 2020. When I am not working, I enjoy playing football and meeting friends.

MURPHY BERESFORD

Customer relations/Biscuit stealer

I am a really popular member of staff at Akers Garage, as customers seem to just love me. That's why I am the customer relations executive, although my owners, Scott and Senga Beresford say I lounge about alot and love eating the biscuits.

BUDDY BERESFORD

Assistant customer relations/Biscuit stealer

I work with Murphy as assistant customer relations when I am not sleeping under the reception desk. Customers also seem to love me when they get to see me and like Murphy, I love eating biscuits too.
